Niall Thompson leaves for Sheffield FC while Matt Brian & Jack Gilchrist sign

The club would like to announce that Niall Thompson has signed for EvoStik South club Sheffield FC, we still retain his registration which would allow him to play for us when circumstances allow and we wish Niall the very best of wishes.

Manager Andy Graves commented: We have never been naïve in thinking Niall would remain with us until the end of the season I am just surprised it's taken this long for clubs to show an interest, we have had several in the last two weeks and only this week a league two club - who will know have to follow that interest up at Sheffield.

The only negative is all the other managers from interested clubs offered Phil and myself the courtesy of speaking with us first before making their intentions official but Sheffield's didn't.

Niall came to us following his release from Torquay and although a culture shock from the professional environment he came from he embraced everything we are trying to achieve as we rebuild Hucknall Town - his attitude was first class and a pleasure to have had and we all helped him as he helped us.

His big smile when he won his first winners medal in senior football wearing an Hucknall Town shirt was special and we thank him for helping us achieve that.

Niall also acknowledges the players around him who have helped him receive the attention and the chance to play at a few levels higher which hopefully will help him back into the professional game. All the players, coaches, Phil and myself wish him well for the future.

Meanwhile the club completed the signings of two new players last night.

Matt Brian from Eastwood and Jack Gilchrist from Chesterfield FC.

Matt is an excellent front man who has impressed manager Andy Graves and one of our leagues top scorers with 16 the same number Niall Thompson left the club on.

A different type of player to Niall, Matt will not only work hard and get goals but also bring others into play.

Jack was out on loan at Retford before Christmas and like Niall we are fortunate to have him join the club and help his development - centre midfield or right back gives himself and ourselves options and he brings quality and a desire to to do well.

Both players will train Wednesday and be in the squad for next weeks home game with Belper.
